Voltmeters monitor electrical system voltage to ensure proper operation of the charging system and also to monitor battery levels when the key is on and the engine is not running.

  • Ensuring that the system voltage is at the proper level.
  • Ensuring battery has a full charge for optimum ignition operation
  • Indication of under or over charging of the battery
  • Monitoring battery charge when powering accessories without the engine running (i.e. video/game stations/audio systems/lighting)
  • Monitoring battery charge when working on a vehicle with the key on but When the engine is running, the needle will indicate the current electrical system voltage. When the engine is not running but the key is on, the needle will indicate the current batter charge level.

A constant reading in the 10-11V or 15-16V area indicates a need for a complete check of either the battery or generating system.

Marshall voltmeters are connected via wires to a switched 12V power source. This source is the voltage that the voltmeter will indicate. No sender is required for use with a voltmeter.
